A striking late 19th century gentleman’s cane featuring an intricately carved ivory handle in the form of a prowling lion with open jaws, detailed mane, and muscular haunches. The handle is mounted on a richly engraved gold-filled collar with spiral foliate motifs, leading to a tapered black lacquered shaft ending in a metal ferrule. A fine example of animalier craftsmanship, combining functional elegance with naturalistic sculpture. Dimensions approx.: total height 36 ins., handle length 5 ins. Condition

Good overall condition. The ivory handle shows minor natural age lines and slight patina consistent with age. The gold-filled collar retains crisp engraving with minimal wear. The shaft has scattered surface scuffs and small abrasions typical of use, and the metal ferrule shows light oxidation. No significant cracks or repairs noted.
