An exceptional novelty cane featuring a spherical pommel intricately carved from ivory and stained to simulate a walnut shell, artfully opened to reveal the natural ivory “kernel” within. The detailed carving is enhanced by warm patination and fine incising, producing a striking trompe l’oeil effect. Mounted on a richly figured rosewood shaft with a plain brass collar and matching brass ferrule. Likely Continental, late 19th century. Dimensions approx.: total height 36 ins., handle length 2 ins. Pickup & Shipping: This lot may be picked up free of charge in Gardnerville, NV. Shipping via FedEx Ground/Home available within the continental U.S. for $100. All shipments include Direct Signature Required and full replacement value insurance at a rate of 1.5% of the purchase price, unless the buyer accepts full liability in writing. Combined lot shipping is typically discounted. Condition

Very good condition overall. The ivory pommel shows attractive age patina with some minor natural hairlines consistent with age and material, no significant losses or repairs noted. The rosewood shaft retains a deep, polished surface with light handling marks. Brass collar and ferrule exhibit mild tarnish, adding to the period character.
