These started life as the Augustin Infantry Musket Model 1842 which had a tube-lock ignition system. Roughly 25,000 were imported for the U.S. Ordnance Department for issue to General John C. Fremont’s Department of the West during the civil war. Most were converted to standard percussion. This piece is one of about 8000 converted by Henry Leman of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This musket has a very interesting hook style bayonet lug. No rear sight and the front sight is a brass blade attached to the forward barrel band.
Dimensions: 57.5" long overall.
