It has original walnut grips, a 6 inch barrel, lanyard ring, and has a number of R.A.C.(Rinaldo A Carr) Ordnance inspection stamps on the frame, barrel, cylinder, cylinder release and more. It has matching serial numbers throughout, and is stamped U.S. Army Model 1894 on the butt. The barrel is stamped Colt D.A. 38. The top of the barrel has Colt's address in Hartford, and patent dates including 1884, 1888, and 1895. The gun was arsenal refinished, and various parts may have been replaced or updated at that time, as was the practice at the arsenal, but the gun retains matching serial numbers.
