.45 Colt. 7.5" barrel. SN: 6107 (mfg. ca. 1874). Plated finish, checkered one-piece walnut grip. Single action black powder frame revolver with fluted six-chambered cylinder, bullseye ejector rod head, frame notch rear sight and modified blade front sight. Numbers that are present are mismatched, as the revolver was rebuilt as an Artillery revolver at some point in time. Single Action Army #6107 is listed in the Springfield Research Service serial number books as being issued to the 3rd US Signal Corps in the artillery configuration during the Spanish-American War, who provided artillery spotting support for Teddy Rosevelt's Rough Riders. Frame with weak two-date in two-line patent mark and "U.S." markings. Barrel is an unnumbered commercial replacement with a later period one-line Hartford address and the commercial ".45 COLT" caliber marking on the left side. Triggerguard with a weak "8060" serial number, no visible serial number on butt or cylinder. Ejector housing is scratch numbered "71498", although it is hard to read. Right of frame is numbered "111" and cylinder numbered "11" with similar dies. Cylinder arbor pin replaced, front sight blade altered, grips with non-professional appleid checkering. The frame serial number is in a prime Custer serial number range with the backstrap of Single Acton Army #6048 being recovered on the Little Bighorn Battlefield. Guns number #6028, #6048, #6177, #6195 and #6198 being documented 2nd Cavalry issued guns. Consignor notes indicate the gun was later sold off as surplus and acquired by and used at the famous 101 Ranch in Oklahoma. At the turn of the century the 101 Ranch established a traveling Wild West show in the style of Buffalo Bill's show and featured such household names as cowboys Tom Mix and Will Rogers.

Good as rebuilt and refurbished. Very good bore is mostly bright with some frosting and oxidation and retaining good black powder rifling, Metal with much of the applied plated finish intact. Markings remain partially legible, although many are weak due to polishing and at least two refinishes, one when the gun was rebuilt was an Artillery revolver and one when it was plated. Hammer is a civilian replacement, barrel is a later civilian replacement, arbor pin is a crude local replacement. Mechanically functional action. Grip with crude checkering and showing moderate wear with some dings and mars.
