Double Barrel Mule-Ear Percussion Combination Gun, top barrel: nominally .38 caliber, bottom: nominally .50 caliber, 29" barrels, Serial numbered 4, Circa 1850. Over and under double barreled combination rifle/shotgun by Calvin Miller of Honoeye, New York, circa 1850. The top barrel (.38 caliber) is rifled and the bottom (.50 caliber) is not. The rifle has a particularly interesting lock with two hammers mounted on the right side of the rifle, side by side, with a single trigger. There is no forend stock, and the rifle has brass mounts, including two brass capped wooden ramrods mounted between the barrels on the sides. The rifle has two holes in the tang, presumable for additional sights. There is an iron buck horn sight with an adjustable steel bead at the muzzle. The locks are mounted on the right hand side, and the hammers spring from the same opening in the lock. They are meant to be fired one at a time, by the same trigger. The top of the breech is stamped: "C. Miller No. 4" over "Honoeye N.Y." these are the only stamps on the piece. Dimensions: 44 ¬Ω inches long overall. This firearm is antique and does not require special licensing. Processing and shipping within the Continental US $125 . All FedEx packages are sent with Direct Signature Required and insured at full replacement value for a fee of 1.5% of the purchase price, unless buyer accepts complete liability in writing. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Condition

Very good overall, what was finish and what is staining is not clearly distinguishable. There are sections of red rust, especially where the right ram rod is. There are some minor marks near the breeches of both barrels. The stock has cracks as well as a repair at the wrist. The action is crisp and strong.
