German World War Two Luftwaffe officer's sword, manufactured by the firm Paul Weyersberg & Co., Solingen. This example is post 1940 as it has aluminum alloy fittings. Throat of scabbard and guard both numbered 506.
With the official establishment of the Luftwaffe in March 1935, the newly introduced sword was awarded to all Luftwaffe officer’s in good-standing and the official designation of the sword was altered to Offizierschwert, (Officer’s Sword), although it was most commonly referred to as the Fliegerschwert, (Flyer’s Sword). Regulations dictated that all Officer’s and senior NCO’s wear the sword with the Service, Reporting, Walking-out, and Parade Dress uniforms. The early issue swords were constructed with German nickel/silver or plated fittings while later models, (circa-1940), had aluminum fittings. The grip and scabbard body are both covered with a fine blue Moroccan leather.
Dimensions: 37" (tip of scabbard to end of pommel), 28.25" blade.

Condition
The blade appears in very fine condition under a layer of old dry grease, which certainly protected it. The leather shows quite a few scuff marks and has some cracking. The fittings have some scuffs, the gilding on the sun wheels is very fine.
