Silver and iron Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse), 1870 issue. Obverse with blackened iron core bearing crowned “W” above date “1870.” Reverse fitted with vertical pin-back. The reverse is stamped “14 LÖTH J. WAGNER & S.,” identifying silver content and the maker, Johann Wagner & Sohn of Berlin, one of the principal court jewelers. Awarded for acts of bravery or leadership in combat during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871.
