A striking late 19th-century Japanese Meiji-era cane featuring a meticulously carved antler handle depicting a coiled snake confronting a monkey. The scene is animated and intricate, with exceptional attention to detail in the textures of both animals. The natural antler curvature enhances the drama of the composition. The handle is mounted on a dark hardwood shaft with a beaded collar marked “STERLING”, confirming silver content. The shaft is finished with a metal ferrule. This cane combines high craftsmanship with symbolic storytelling and was likely created for export during the height of the Meiji decorative arts movement.
