A compact and appealing rifle powder tin with full front label reading “Orange Rifle Powder / Laflin & Rand Powder Co. / New York.” The label depicts a rustic sporting scene of a rifleman and dog in the woods. These smaller tins were intended for individual shooters and target use, and this example retains a second, handwritten paper label on the reverse, possibly indicating inventory or collection notes. The oval, flask-shaped form with turned cap is characteristic of late 19th-century packaging from Laflin & Rand, one of America’s principal powder firms prior to their 1902 absorption into DuPont. Pickup & Shipping: This lot may be picked up free of charge in Gardnerville, NV. It can also be delivered to the Annex Auctions facility for pick up in Sacramento for $25, or shipped via FedEx or USPS within the continental U.S. for $30. All shipments include Direct Signature Required and full replacement value insurance at a rate of 1.5% of the purchase price, unless the buyer accepts full liability in writing. Combined lot shipping is typically discounted.

Condition

Very good overall. Front label is complete and legible; reverse label shows age-related toning and wear. Light oxidation and scattered spotting to painted surface. Cap present.
