Group of three WWII-era Japanese Type 89 mortar projectiles, commonly associated with the Type 89 grenade discharger known to Allied troops as the “Knee Mortar.” The lot consists of three inert projectiles retaining remnants of original paint and markings. One example displays Japanese characters and painted identification bands, another has been modified with a slot cut into the body and was reportedly used as a piggy bank, while the third presents an unusual appearance consistent with having been fired and only partially functioned, exhibiting slight mushrooming and deformation at the nose. The bases retain their characteristic multi-port vented construction.
