U.S. Model 1881 Spiked Pith Helmet, this one is 2nd Artillery and has its parade plume instead of the spike. It also has its red lanyard.
These became Part of the uniform midway, through the late 19th century Indian wars and remained through The Spanish American War then until around 1902. This one was made by B.M. Whitlock, NY. contracted May 16th 1889.
