U.S. Model 1881 Spiked Pith Helmet, this one is Signal Corps with the early long flag insignia. It has its parade plume and lanyard instead of the spike.
These became Part of the uniform midway, through the late 19th century Indian wars and remained through The Spanish American War then until around 1902. This one was made by Raymond & Whitlock Co. contracted June 4th 1883.

Back visor has several large splits and is missing the back section of the chin strap.It should be noted that this collection was in a house with cats and most items have a distinct urine smell.
