U.S. Model 1881 Spiked Pith Helmet, this one is from a musician and has its parade plume instead of the spike.
These became Part of the uniform midway, through the late 19th century Indian wars and remained through The Spanish American War then until around 1902. This one was made by W.H. Hortsmann Co. contracted March 4th 1899.
