World War I U.S. M1917 steel helmet retaining its original rough-textured olive drab finish and fitted with an early oilcloth-covered liner and leather chinstrap. The left side of the shell displays a hand-painted blue artillery projectile within a black circular insignia, likely representing an artillery-related unit marking applied during or shortly after military service. The shell exhibits honest field wear and age throughout, with traces of additional red paint visible on the reverse side. Interior retains its original liner assembly with woven crown pad and leather components.
