U.S. Model 1917 steel helmet (“doughboy”) featuring an elaborate period hand-painted decorative scheme. The helmet is adorned with patriotic and symbolic imagery including the Great Seal eagle, the Statue of Liberty, an American eagle over a globe, and multicolored geometric panels suggestive of unit or campaign motifs.
The shell retains its classic shallow-domed profile with rolled edge, consistent with U.S.-produced M1917 helmets. Interior retains its original oilcloth liner and leather chinstrap. Shell is stamped “ZC 55,” indicating wartime manufacture.
