Well-matched pair of U.S. M1905 pattern bayonets, each accompanied by a canvas-covered scabbard with metal throat and wire belt hooks. Both examples are Rock Island Arsenal production, clearly marked “R.I.A.” with visible dates of 1917 and 1918 on the ricasso. The bayonets follow the classic M1905 configuration, originally adopted in 1905 for use with the Springfield Model 1903 rifle and later carried into early M1 Garand service before widespread shortening programs during World War II. Each retains wood grip panels secured by screws, with standard crossguard and pommel incorporating the push-button locking mechanism. The scabbards are of the canvas-covered type associated with early 20th century U.S. military issue, with one example bearing a stenciled name “C.J. McCARTHY,” adding period personalization.
