The triangular blade is characteristic of the early U.S. trench knife pattern, intended primarily for thrusting. The accompanying Model 1917 bolo knife retains its broad, forward-weighted blade form and wooden grip scales, designed as a utility and clearing tool for brush as well as general field use. The bolo is housed in a period canvas-covered scabbard with leather tip and throat.
