Well-made group of four Inglewood, California police badges representing rank and assignment distinctions within the department, including a Sergeant shield, a standard Patrol Officer badge, a Motor Police badge with applied bear device and detachable number bar “26,” and a Police Reserve eagle-top badge. Instituted in 1908, the Inglewood Police Department issued badges of this type to sworn officers and auxiliary personnel for official identification and rank or duty designation. The Sergeant example features blue enamel panels and supervisory chevrons, while the Patrol badge presents the traditional eagle-top shield form. The Motor Police badge includes the California bear motif and mounted number bar, denoting traffic or motorcycle assignment. All four examples are Entenmann manufacture, with the Sergeant badge marked “ENTENMANN-ROVIN CO. / GENUINE ‘CARLTONE GOLD’ / ‘PLATILOY SILVER’ / PICO RIVERA, CALIF.”, the Patrol badge marked “ENTENMANN-ROVIN CO. / GENUINE ‘CARLTONE GOLD’ / PICO RIVERA, CALIF.”, and both the Motor and Reserve badges stamped “ENTENMANN / LOS ANGELES.” The presence of both Los Angeles and later Pico Rivera address marks reflects departmental continuity of supplier across production periods and adds cohesive regional collector interest.
