Virginia's state forces captured Harper’s Ferry on April 18, 1861. The captured stores and machinery were quickly taken to Richmond and set up in the old Virginia Armory. In late August 1861, the Confederate government took over the facility and it was thereafter known as the "Richmond Armory.” The looted machinery was designed to manufacture lock plates for the M1855 US, Maynard tape primer rifles. The lock plates were never milled out to accept the Maynard tape ignition system, but they still have the raised profile "hump" of those lock plates.
Dimensions: the length of whats left is 46.5".

Condition
Unfortunately this rifle got into to a fight with some termites and lost. The stock is gone from the wrist back. And the termites bored a massive section out behind the lock plate up to the rear sight on the left side. The bore and the front section of the barrel has a dusty oxidation.
