.45 Colt. 5.25" barrel. SN: 90197 (mfg. ca. 1883). Nickel finish with silver wash, fire blued trigger, raised carved two-piece mother of pearl grips. Single action black powder frame revolver with six-chambered fluted cylinder, kidney shaped ejector rod head, frame notch rear sight and blade front sight. Frame, cylinder and barrel decorated with New York style engraving, featuring flowing Arabesque scrolls with punch dot background shading, geometric patterns and shell motifs. Barrel with one line Hartford address, frame with three-date in three-line patent markings. All visible numbers match. The accompanying Colt factory letter lists the gun as being a .45 Colt revolver with no barrel length listed, nickel finish, rubber grips and one of ten guns shipped to J.P. Moore's & Sons of New York on April 5, 1883. The letter additionally notes that the another Single Action Army with the same number is listed in the records as a 4.75" nickel .45 Colt revolver with rubber grips that shipped to Hartley & Graham in New York on May 10, 1883. This second gun cannot be this one, as this gun has a one-line address that is only found on barrel lengths longer than 4.75" and this one appears to have be a 5.5" gun that had the barrel trimmed .25" at the time it was enhanced. JP Moore would certainly customize guns for customers when ordered that way, including with engraving, special finishes and special grips. The raised carved mother of pearl grips feature an illegible raised monogram on the left side, which appears to have an "A" as the central letter. A very attractive  and nicely enhanced Old West era Single Action Army that likely has some great stories to tell. {ANTIQUE}

Condition

Very Good to Near Fine. Bore very good, lightly oxidized with some discoloration and strong black powder rifling. Metal with much of the flaking nickel intact and areas of silver wash still visible, which are moderately tarnished. Areas where the finish has worn or flaked now have a darkly oxidized patina. Engraving and markings remains mostly clear and visible, although the barrel address is a little weak, as is the butt serial number. Revolver remains mechanically functional with good timing, indexing and locks up. Grips with some moderate wear, leaving the raised carved monogram illegible and with some scattered minor scuffs and mars, some small grain cracks and some areas of discoloration.
