Die-struck 1939 Spange (clasp) featuring a spread-wing eagle perched above a wreath enclosing a swastika and the date “1939.” Instituted in 1939, this clasp was awarded to recipients of the 1914 Iron Cross First Class who again distinguished themselves in combat during World War II. The device was worn directly affixed to the 1914 Iron Cross First Class. This example displays strong feather definition to the eagle and clear detail to the wreath and date tablet. The reverse retains its vertical pin-back assembly and is stamped “L21” within a rectangular cartouche on the pin arm, denoting manufacture by Gebrüder Godet & Co., Berlin.
