A German Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse), issued for the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71. The obverse bears the crowned “W” cipher of Kaiser Wilhelm I above the date 1870. The reverse carries the crowned cipher “FW” of Friedrich Wilhelm III with oak leaves and the founding date “1813,” marking the institution of the Iron Cross during the Napoleonic Wars. Constructed with a silver frame and magnetic iron core, the medal is suspended from its black-and-white ribbon. Awarded for acts of bravery in battle, this medal reflects the continuity of German military tradition across conflicts.
