Scarce die-struck metal Kuban Shield bearing the date “1943” beneath a spread-wing eagle and wreath with central swastika, over the inscription “KUBAN” and campaign locations including “LAGUNEN,” “KRYMSKAJA,” and “NOWOROSSIJSK.” Instituted in 1943, the Kuban Shield was awarded to German personnel who participated in the defensive battles in the Kuban bridgehead on the Eastern Front between February and October 1943, recognizing sustained combat service in that sector. This example retains a strong gilt-toned finish with clear, well-defined detail to the eagle, lettering, and stepped central device. The reverse retains its field-gray wool backing and metal backing plate.

Good. Obverse shows scattered finish wear, small areas of spotting, and light surface oxidation consistent with age. Reverse shows age-related wear to the backing materials. Two attachment prongs are detached from the shield but remain present with the piece. No visible maker mark observed.
