Desirable die-struck metal Narvik Shield bearing the inscription “NARVIK” above the date “1940,” surmounted by a spread-wing eagle and wreath with central swastika. The lower field displays crossed sword and anchor beneath an edelweiss, symbolizing the joint participation of Heer, Kriegsmarine, and Gebirgsjäger forces in the Norwegian campaign. Instituted in 1940, the Narvik Shield was awarded to German personnel who took part in the battles for Narvik between April and June 1940, recognizing combat service in the Norwegian theater. This example retains much of its original gilt-toned finish with strong detail throughout. The reverse retains its original metal backing plate.
