A German Iron Cross 1st Class from World War II, awarded for acts of bravery or exemplary leadership in combat. The flat form features a blackened iron magnetic core within a silver frame, with a swastika at the center and the date 1939 at the base. The reverse bears a vertical pinback and a small maker’s stamp to the pin, typical of mid-war manufacture. Instituted in 1939, the Iron Cross 1st Class was a continuation of Germany’s highest combat decoration from World War I.
