Silver screwback Iron Cross marked M. HANSEN, D.R.G.M. 650006, and 800 with crescent moon and crown hallmarks. The vaulted silver frame encloses an iron core finished in matte black with raised beaded borders and the classic crowned “W” above the date 1914. Reverse fitted with the distinctive circular silver backing plate characteristic of Hansen’s officer-grade manufacture. Instituted in 1914 and awarded for acts of bravery in the field or exceptional command achievement, the Iron Cross 1st Class was the highest decoration worn on the uniform tunic.
