The company was one of the premier black powder manufacturers of the 19th century, supplying both civilian and military markets. This example features a vivid red-painted base and top, green-painted ribbed metal sides, and a beautifully aged original label showing the central rifleman motif with “Manufactured expressly for the Hazard Powder Co.” stenciled around. The top is marked with a worn filler label and a boldly painted shipping designation: “W.C. / Marysville,” pointing to its historic destination in Marysville, California—a key Gold Rush supply hub and shipping center for munitions and hardware in the 19th century.
