A rare and well-preserved 25 lb. powder keg bearing the iconic “Kentucky Rifle Gunpowder” label produced by the Hazard Powder Company of Enfield, Connecticut. The company was one of the premier black powder manufacturers of the 19th century, supplying both civilian and military markets. This example features a vivid red-painted base and top, green-painted ribbed metal sides, and a beautifully aged original label showing the central rifleman motif with “Manufactured expressly for the Hazard Powder Co.” stenciled around. The top is marked with a worn filler label and a boldly painted shipping designation: “W.C. / Marysville,” pointing to its historic destination in Marysville, California—a key Gold Rush supply hub and shipping center for munitions and hardware in the 19th century.
