An appealing oval-form tin marked “Kentucky Rifle Gunpowder,” produced by the renowned Hazard Powder Company of Hazardville, Connecticut. The black-painted body is complemented by a sepia-toned circular label depicting a frontier marksman in buckskins, rifle in hand. This powder line was targeted at the rugged Western market and remains one of the most iconic of the company’s offerings. The reverse retains its clean black lacquer finish. A DuPont acquisition in 1912 marked the end of the Hazard brand, making pre-acquisition tins such as this especially desirable.
