Classic six-point Los Angeles County Constable Deputy Sheriff star badge featuring beaded border, applied banner panels reading “CONSTABLE” and “DEPUTY SHERIFF,” and central California grizzly bear device. The upper panel is marked “L.A. CO.” and the lower point is numbered 58. The reverse bears the maker’s mark “CHIPRON/STAMP CO./L.A.” Chipron Stamp Co. of Los Angeles produced a number of Southern California law enforcement insignia during the early to mid-20th century. Constables historically served as township-level peace officers under county authority, executing court orders and performing local law enforcement duties prior to consolidation of many such functions into sheriff’s departments.
