Large and highly decorative Spanish plug bayonet featuring a 9.5-inch double-edged blade richly etched with scrolling foliate decoration, heraldic motifs, and a prominent “FABRICA DE TOLEDO” panel at the ricasso. The hilt is fitted with a finely turned wooden grip, engraved crossguard, and matching engraved metal mounts. The accompanying leather-covered scabbard retains elaborately engraved throat and chape mounts decorated with scrolling floral designs and a raised teardrop-shaped ornament. Such pieces were produced in Toledo, Spain, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, drawing inspiration from earlier European bayonets and presentation weapons, and were often sold as high-quality military, ceremonial, or export pieces.

Dimensions: 16 in. overall; 9.5 in. blade.

Pickup & Shipping: Free pickup in Gardnerville, NV. FedEx shipping within the continental U.S.: $40 + 1.5% insurance (unless waived in writing). Combined shipping available.

Condition

Blade retains crisp etched decoration on both sides with scattered age staining, light sharpening, and minor wear. Engraved hilt and mounts display an attractive aged patina with traces of gilt highlighting remaining within recessed decoration. Wooden grip remains sound with minor handling marks. Leather-covered scabbard exhibits expected age cracking, surface wear, and small losses to the covering, while retaining its engraved metal throat and chape. Overall a well-preserved and visually impressive example.
