Two brass bugles, including an engraved presentation example manufactured by Besson & Co., London. One bugle bears the badge of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers with regimental device mounted to the bell and is engraved:
“No. II
Besson & Co.
London
Great European War 1914/15
Presented to
The Wood Green Volunteer Corps
By
Pte. Horace Edward Deacock
This Bugle Will Be Returned To The Donor On The Disbandment Of The Corps.”
The Volunteer Training Corps and related local volunteer organizations were established throughout Britain during the First World War to assist with home defense and military preparedness. The accompanying bugle is of similar brass construction and period appearance. Together the pair represents an interesting group of British military signaling instruments associated with wartime service and volunteer military organizations.
Dimensions: Approximately 12 in. long each.
Pickup & Shipping: Free pickup in Gardnerville, NV. FedEx shipping within the continental U.S.: $50 + 1.5% insurance (unless waived in writing). Combined shipping available.
Both retain an aged brass patina with scattered handling wear, oxidation, and surface marks consistent with age and use. Engraving on the presentation bugle remains legible. No functional testing has been performed.
