Presentation Browning & Heber San Francisco heavy percussion target rifle. Bore measures 9mm (between 35-36 caliber), barrel: 32", NSN, circa 1873.
Left side of stock has a plaque that reads: "Presented to J. L. Meyer by members of S.F.S.V. April 28th 1873".
Some info on the gunsmith: William Heber was born in 1836, in Germany. 1861-1872, he worked for other San Francisco gunsmiths. 1873-1876, he was in partnership with August Browning; the business was known as Browning and Heber, located at 653 Washington Street, San Francisco. 1877-1879, he formed another partnership with an employee named Louis Moller; the business was known as Heber & Moller. They were located at 631 Washington Street, San Francisco. Heber became a naturalized citizen of the United States on March 10, 1879 (Cal. Gunsmiths, L.P. Shelton). After this he had his own shop for a time then went back to working with other gunsmiths as before.

Condition
Has brass re-enforcing plates screwed in on either side of the wrist. The wrist appears to have cracked at the top but not broken all the way. The bore was difficult to see very far down but it does appear to have some rust. Action functions mechanically.
