A remarkable and rare example of a 19th-century concealed firearm system cane, attributed stylistically and mechanically to Joseph-Célestin Dumonthier, the renowned Parisian gunsmith and inventor of the cane gun. This example bears the collar stamp “ECLIPSE No. 265”, aligning with known British and Continental iterations of Dumonthier-style designs, many of which were imported under licensed names or private makers. The cane features a L-shaped staghorn handle, functioning as both grip and visual concealment, and a push-button release mechanism at the collar. Upon separating the two segments, a brass barrel insert is revealed, consistent with Dumonthier’s patented designs for centerfire discharge mechanisms. The lower shaft houses what appears to be a projectile barrel.
