Early Smith Civil War Carbine in .50 caliber. Has 21-5/8 inch barrel, serial no 765, Barrel finished blue and receiver casehardened with walnut stock. Made by American Machine Works with an estimated total production of 30,000. Sling ring mounted on the left side. Left side is marked "ADDRESS/POULTNRY & TRIMBLE/BALTIMORE, USA" and "SMITH'S PATENT/JUNE 23,1857" "MANUFACTURED BY/AM'N BY/ MASS ARMS CO/CHICOPEE FALLS". Popular union calvary carbine with "LFR" sub-inspector's initials on the left barrel flat with inspectors marks on the tang, buttplate, and sight. Script inspectors cartouche on the left side of the stock and sub-inspector's initials forward buttplate and on forearm. Dimensions: 39" long overall. This firearm is antique and does not require special licensing. Processing and shipping within the Continental US $100 . Condition

Overall excellent condition. Action functions mechanically. Barrel retains vast majority of finish. Barrel latch and trigger guard have vast majority of the high polish blue present. The receiver and hammer have virtually all of the bright casehardened finish. Bore is mint. Stock shows slight handling marks. Desirable aged raised wood grain. Buttplate turning dark with age.
