This is the early production version with the spring-loaded ball action lock, which was replaced with a push button release on later production guns. There is some confusion regarding the number of these guns that were produced circa 1871-1890 by the firm. Serial numbers suggest production up to about 27,000, but the irregularities of the serial numbering system suggests production was much lower.
