.22RF Short. 2.125” octagon to round barrel. SN: 38929. Blued barrel, silver plated brass frame, color casehardened hammer and trigger, smooth walnut grips. Top of barrel marked in a single line “E. ALLEN & Co. MAKERS.” One of the smallest derringers produced, this diminutive pistol is nominally 4” in overall length with a pivoting barrel, single action spur trigger mechanism, no extractor or sights. Estimates regarding production are vague, suggesting “several thousand” were produced between 1869 and 1871. A really lovely condition example of a relatively uncommon American derringer from the post-Civil War period. Shipping: This lot may be picked up free of charge in Gardnerville, NV. It can also be delivered to the Annex Auctions facility for pick up in Sacramento for $25 or shipped via FedEx or USPS within the continental U.S. for $85. All shipments include Direct Signature Required and full replacement value insurance at a rate of 1.5% of the purchase price, unless the buyer accepts full liability in writing. Combined lot shipping is typically discounted.

Condition

Very fine. Barrel with much of the thinning blue remaining, some of the iridescent color still present. Frame with most of the deeply tarnished silver plating intact. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional action. Very good bore is smooth, mostly bright and with scattered surface oxidation and discoloration. Grips fine and crisp with scattered light handling marks.
