.22RF Short. 2.875” octagon to round barrel. SN: 86. Blued barrel, brass frame, two-piece smooth rosewood grips. Top of barrel marked “W IRVING”. Serial numbered on frame under grips, under barrel and in both grips. Like so many of the simple single shot derringers of the period, this is a single action, spur trigger, pivoting barrel gun with rudimentary sights consisting of a hammer nose notch rear and a brass cone front sight. These guns were made in both .22 and .32 with about 500 of the .22 caliber pistols believed to have been produced from the end of the 1850s through the mid-1860s. The authors of The Deringer in America Volume II - The Cartridge Period note that only about 20 examples of these scarce derringers are known. Shipping: This lot may be picked up free of charge in Gardnerville, NV. It can also be delivered to the Annex Auctions facility for pick up in Sacramento for $25 or shipped via FedEx or USPS within the continental U.S. for $85. All shipments include Direct Signature Required and full replacement value insurance at a rate of 1.5% of the purchase price, unless the buyer accepts full liability in writing. Combined lot shipping is typically discounted.
