A World War I Imperial German, Prussian Balloon Observer’s Badge (Luftschifferabzeichen), instituted in 1913 and awarded to qualified military balloon observers who completed training and participated in aerial reconnaissance operations. The obverse depicts a detailed observation balloon framed within a wreath of laurel and oak leaves symbolizing achievement and endurance, surmounted by the Prussian crown. Constructed of finely die-struck hollow silver, the reverse is marked “C. E. Juncker, Berlin” with the crescent moon and crown silver hallmark and “800.” It features a radiating sunburst pattern and a vertical pinback clasp with hinge and catch intact. The workmanship is characteristic of Juncker’s Berlin production.

Very Good. Light even patina, minor oxidation near hinge, with excellent overall definition in crown, balloon pattern, and wreath. Pin and catch remain firm and fully functional.
