Unusual World War I-era U.S. Brodie helmet exhibiting several manufacturing anomalies suggesting it was a factory reject, experimental piece, or production second retained outside normal military issue channels. The helmet retains its original textured khaki finish and displays a broad red painted stripe running front-to-back over the crown with a corresponding horizontal red band across the rear. The shell lacks the standard liner attachment rivets and instead features large circular holes through the brim, while the interior retains an early oilcloth-and-net suspension system with leather headband and original instruction label reading, in part, “TIGHTEN CORD AND ADJUST NET TO FIT THE HEAD.” A stamped marking appears adjacent to one of the brim perforations.

Retains its original textured finish with scattered handling wear, oxidation, and age-related surface abrasions. Red painted markings remain visible with expected wear and losses. Interior suspension survives with period oilcloth liner, leather band, and net assembly present, showing age, shrinkage, and separation consistent with long-term storage. Instruction label remains partially intact. Overall a well-preserved and unusual example.
