World War I U.S. M1917 steel helmet retaining an attractive period-style camouflage paint scheme consisting of irregular fields of olive green, brown, tan, and black separated by dark outline borders. The shell retains its original textured finish beneath the camouflage application and exhibits the distinctive hand-painted appearance associated with wartime and occupation-period camouflage helmets. Interior retains its original oilcloth-covered liner assembly with felt crown pad and leather chinstrap. The underside of the rear brim is stamped “HS 366,” identifying manufacture by Hadfield Ltd. of Sheffield, England, one of the principal wartime producers of the M1917 pattern. A visually striking example of the iconic American combat helmet of the First World War.
