World War Two Archive of an Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) pilot named
Kyuhachi Takahashi,
Involved with the attack on Pearl Harbor. The archive consists of 3 items: a commendation letter to Pearl Harbor pilots dated April 15, 1942 written by Yamamoto, An award document from 1944 for the order of the golden kite 6th class and the order of the rising sun 7th class awarded to navy chief petty officer Kyuhachi Takahashi, and a set of pocket sized identification flash cards for important royal and military figures. Japanese pilots typically started as petty officers with chance to be promoted based on performance. Takahashi being a chief petty officer means he was reasonably successful. Unfortunately, he did not survive. The award criteria for the golden kite he was awarded was changed in 1940. After 1940 it was only awarded posthumously, which means he had to have been killed if he was awarded it in 1944.
