Original Folsom State Prison photographic mug book containing approximately 175 pages with over 1,050 individual booking photographs dating from 1908–1909. The oversized cloth-bound institutional album retains mounted silver gelatin identification photographs depicting inmates in profile and frontal poses, many accompanied by corresponding prison intake images with chalkboard offense panels identifying prisoner number, date, county, crime, sentence, place of birth, and age. Subjects include men of varied ethnic backgrounds and offenses ranging from burglary and robbery to murder and assault with deadly weapons, offering a rare and visually compelling record of early 20th century California penal history. Several entries reference Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Marin, Tuolumne, Santa Clara, Sonoma, and Nevada-related crimes and arrests. The spine bears institutional inventory markings “6874 / 7425” with date references “Feb 6 1908” and “Oct 12 1909.” A fine surviving archive of criminology, California history, photography, and Western Americana.
