Two early post–World War II bronze and enamel badges from the Chinese Civil War period. The first, dated 1946, commemorates the Tenth Anniversary of the War of Resistance (Anti-Japanese War), featuring a red five-pointed star over a red banner with Chinese inscription translating to “Tenth Anniversary of the War of Resistance,” set against a globe motif framed by a laurel wreath. The second, dated 1947, is a merit or marksmanship award badge depicting a machine gunner in yellow enamel beneath red banners inscribed with Chinese characters for “Virtue and Merit Award.” Both examples exhibit hand-applied enamel decoration and simple coiled wire pinback fittings typical of locally made Communist and Nationalist awards from this transitional period between the Second Sino-Japanese War and the resumption of the Chinese Civil War.
