Original five-count packet of combustible envelope cartridges made of Hazard’s Powder, manufactured expressly for Col. Colt’s Patent New Model Revolving Police Pistol by Colt’s Cartridge Works, Hartford, Connecticut. The printed wrapper bears detailed black typography with pistol corner motifs and the .36 caliber designation. These cartridges were intended for use in Colt’s .36 caliber Police Model revolvers, introduced in the late 1850s and popular during the early Civil War years, combining bullet and powder in a paper casing that burned away upon discharge.
