A gilt tombac example of the Kriegsmarine U-Boat War Badge, showing a detailed submarine surmounted by the German eagle clutching a swastika, all enclosed within a laurel wreath. The reverse is maker-marked JMME (Julius Maurer, München), fitted with a broad barrel hinge, tapered pin, and soldered catch. Instituted in 1939, this badge was awarded to U-boat crews upon completion of two operational patrols, or for outstanding achievement in combat service.
