A fine gilt and enamel Austro-Hungarian pield pilot’s badge featuring a gilt eagle in flight over a green enamel oak leaf wreath, surmounted by the Imperial crown and bearing the monogram “FJI” for Emperor Franz Joseph I at the base. The reverse is fitted with a long vertical pin, hinge, and catch, and is maker-marked “Alois Klammer, Innsbruck.” Instituted in 1913, the badge was awarded to qualified military aviators of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who completed pilot training and active flight service prior to or during World War I.
