Historic first-issue Iron Cross 2nd Class from 1813, struck during the Napoleonic Wars. Obverse shows a crown above the royal cipher “FW” for Friedrich Wilhelm III, central oak leaves, and the founding date “1813” on the lower arm. Reverse is plain, as issued, without additional dates or ciphers. Constructed with a magnetic iron core and silver frame, suspended from a black-and-white combatant’s ribbon. The Iron Cross was instituted in March 1813 as Prussia’s highest award for valor and leadership in the wars of liberation against Napoleon, marking the beginning of the long Iron Cross tradition.
