A World War I German Iron Cross 2nd Class, with the familiar black iron core framed by a silver border. The obverse bears the crowned “W” cipher of Kaiser Wilhelm II above the date “1914.” The reverse displays a crowned “FW” cipher for King Friedrich Wilhelm III above oak leaves and the date “1813,” commemorating the decoration’s original institution during the Napoleonic Wars. This example is a standard two-piece construction with an iron center and silver frame, showing remnants of the original blackened finish. Mounted on a period black and white combatant’s ribbon, fitted to a pin-back suspension. The Iron Cross 2nd Class was awarded to soldiers of all ranks for acts of bravery or distinguished leadership in the field. Dimensions: 1.75 x 1.75 in., overall height with ribbon 3.75 in. Condition

Very Good. Light wear to silver frame, some oxidation and finish loss to the iron core, and ribbon with fraying and age toning. Pin-back shows field use.
