Oval gilt tombac or zinc construction badge, featuring the raised image of a German steel helmet with embossed swastika, set above a pair of crossed swords. Surrounding the central motif is a laurel wreath tied with a bow at the base, with a pebbled background field. The reverse shows a vertical pin-back setup and is stamped with the maker’s code “30” (indicating Hauptmünzamt Wien, Vienna Mint). The Gold Wound Badge was the highest of the three grades (Black, Silver, Gold), awarded to military personnel seriously or repeatedly wounded in combat.
